September 9, 2010 - Fiery Crash on Route 443

At least four persons were seriously injured in a fiery crash along route 443 in Mahoning Township. The crash occurred just before 10 a.m. on September 9, 2010. An eastbound pickup truck and westbound car were involved. Passing motorists pulled at three persons from the car, which burst into flames upon the impact. Four helicopters, including two LVH MedEvac, landed at Jake Arner Memorial Airport where the injured were transported. Route 443 was closed for several hours. Mahoning township police are investigating the accident. Responding were the Mahoning Valley and Lehighton Fire Departments, Mahoning Valley Ambulance and Lehighton paramedics. Area fire police maintained traffic control at the scene.
